1/192 Liberty Ship (Scratchbuilt)
This is a model of the James K Polk EC2 Liberty ship hull number
161 . I built this model for the 1991 Mariners Museum Ship Model competition
where it won a bronze medal. This model was scratch built except for some
commercial photo etch railings and inclined ladders. All weapons, lifeboats,
ground tackle, winches, and cowl vents were fabricated and castings then
made. This was the first model ever entered in the contest that had full
hull plating and the model received a lot of comments on the realism. Due
to the interest in my technique for applying plating I wrote an article
in Model Ship Builder Magazine #81 Jan-Feb 1993 called Plating Model Ship
Hulls. Please see a copy for the full explanation of this technique.
