1/350 USS Mississippi - 1945 (Iron Shipwright)

Battleship BB-41 USS Mississippi as she appeared during the Okinawa campaign of 1945. Ship is painted in Measure 21 Navy Blue 5-N. Model is a Iron Shipwright 4-066 USS New Mexico 1/350 resin kit. When the ship was refitted at Pearl Harbor in early 1945 following kamikaze damage, her captain insisted that extra secondary and light weight AAA weapons be added to the ship. The final remaining, casemate mounted, 5"/51s were removed and the casemates plated over. In there place eight 5"/25s were added, bringing the total guns of that type to sixteen single mount guns. She now carried twelve 40mm quadruple mounts, two more than she had before the refit. This plus 20mm single and twin mounted guns wherever there was space. Made for a very cramped ship. This model of the Mississippi portrays her after this final refit.
