1/700 HMS Hood 1931 (Trumpeter)

I suppose there comes a time in any plastic ship modeler's life where Hood has to be built, and that time was this past two years. A commission by some stranger on Reddit, thankfully they provided the 1931 version of the Trumpeter kit, which one doesn't see built too often (and at least not yet superceded by the superior Flyhawk kit). Enticed by the prospect of of building that wonky and short-lived catapult and crane, I agreed.

Using the always handy HMS Hood Association page that reviewed this particular kit, we agreed on some modifications (see below) and used the GMM British Warships PE set. This is the only one one the market at this time that includes the 1931 aviation facilities that wasn't also a much more extensive (i.e. expensive and time-consuming) overhaul of the kit (i.e. the Flyhawk set). Client asked for no rigging, but I had to include some to complete the silhouette.

For convenience and irony, she's painted predominantly in "German" colours. Hairy brushed throughout using Tamiya (lower hull [XF-63 German Grey] and lino) and Lifecolor (vertical surfaces were UA 605 Dunkelgrau, deck was teak with various pencil crayoning and washes). "White" was Lifecolor's Hellgrau Silbergrau UA 601. Black was black. Boats' blue was 20B Deck Blue from one of my precious PolyScale bottles.

Additions/mods:

Not the most detailed build but with an impending cross-country move, had to wrap it up! Pleased to say it arrived safely in the client's hands through the Canada Post system.
