HMS Nelson

1/700 HMS Nelson (Tamiya)

This is the 3rd battleship I commissioned to build for a friend and in some ways the most difficult due the the inaccuracies of the kit itself. It is Tamiya's 1/700 HMS Nelson, depicted as she appeared in the far east after her 1944 refit. I must thank John from WEM for the painting guide and the guys at WEM for supplying the Sambrook Marine plans, paints and etch. I used WEM Colourcoats for the hull and steel decks and lifecolour's Israeli sandgrey as the basecolour for the wooden decks. WEM etch is used to provide finer detail and WEM 8 barrel pompoms replace the kit parts. the bofors guns are by skywave. Again as with Missouri and POW - no railings or rigging was required to be added to the model. I had to alter the layout and items on the turret tops and for the radars around the base of the mast (the plans were handy for this!). I am pleased with the overall result and think that its not the worst model I've ever seen! Its owner was very pleased with the result, so I guess its turned out ok!
