The battleships Yamashiro and her sister the Fuso were after the battlecruisers and later rebuild as fast battleships of the Kongo class the oldest Japanese battleships.
Both saw only little combat in the first years of the pacific war. At the battle of Leyte Yamashiro and Fuso were parts of the “southern force” under the command of Nishimura.
Both ships and almost all other ships of this part of the Japanese forces were sunk by the US Navy in the night battle of the 25.10.1944.
My Yamashiro was the HiMold kit from PitRoad. This is one of the best resin kits which I have built in all my years I have build resin kits. A superb casting with a lot of details on all places! After all a complex but perfect kit with no flaws on it in my opinion. But after I have seen the Flyhawk super detail set for the Yamashiro I have decided to build this kit with the Flyhawk super detail set. Original the Flyhawk set was planned for the new Aoshima plastic kit. That means on many steps that it was not easy to fix and add the PE parts to the resin kit, especially on the pagoda bridge structure. But after all it was a great improvement for the kit!
