1/700 SMS Derfflinger (FlyHawk)

Here it is, my second model for the 100 years anniversary of the Battle of Jutland.

The Derfflinger was the lead ship of the Derfflinger class battlecruisers. They where the first armed with 30,5 cm guns. She was launched on the 14.03.2013. The commission was in September 1914. It took part in all major engagements in the North Sea and was badly damaged during the Battle of the Doggerbank and Jutland. After the Jutland Battle Derfflinger was rebuild with a new tripod mast.

The kit is from Flyhawk and has all necessary parts for a nice model. It closely depicts the ship during before the battle of Jutland. But in this time there where no rear 8.8 Flak guns as in the kit. Instead there were 8.8 SK mounted, for which I scratchbuild a new gun shield. My model depicts the Derfflinger during summer 1915 when trials where taken with lifting a plane on board. Luckily a plane, a Friedrichshafen F33, is included in the kit. For the Derfflinger I also used the extra PE parts from Flyhawk, the set gives the little extra on some places. The Torpedoboot is also from Flyhawk from their Lützow kit. A really nice model by it self. I painted the Derfflinger with Lifecolors for the hull and Vallejos for the small parts. The Torpedoboot is painted with Tamiya's Nato black. The water is made again with water effects from Vallejo. For the ship crew I used the really nice figs from Shelf Oddity.
