1/350 CA Baleares (Scratchbuilt)
This project is one that has me most excited of all those I 've made. The Spanish heavy cruiser "Canarias" and "Balearic" were the result of the Spanish naval program of 1926 in which the construction of three Washington type were authorised but only two cruises were built.
As can be seen in their lines, these vessels are of English design with slight modifications compared to their British counterparts, classes London and Kent, were being built almost at once and also designed by Sir Philip Watts.
These vessels were launched in 1931 in the Canary and Balearic 1932 , and entered the civil war taking part by the National side hardly be fully enrolled . In fact when the Balearics sailed forced by events did so with a makeshift crew no flak or aft main tower .
These vessels despite being one of the larger sized and importance built in our country at this time are the great unknown of our Navy , mostly seeded the " Balearic " whose documentation process was an epic by the absence of documentation erroneous and much of what I got , which in many cases was his twin.
The Baleares was the larger sized vessel sunk during the war, in March 1938 , and also the shortest-lived of all Washington type .
During World War II survivor of the class, "Canarias" took no part in
the contest and declared that Spain was neutral , and the only notable
action was to be the only ship to the rescue and search for survivors of
Bismarck .
