1/700 USS Philadelphia CL-41 (Niko Model)
The light cruisers of the Brooklyn class were commissioned between 1937 and 1939, and served with distinction throughout the US Navy’s participation in World War II. Eight of the 9 ships survived the war (Helena having being lost to Japanese torpedos in July 1943), and six of these continued serving other navies until the 1980’s. Phoenix, renamed General Belgrano in Argentinian serviced, was sunk in 1982 to British submarine action during the Falklands war. They carried a heavy main battery consisting of 15 6-inch guns, each capable of 10 rounds per minute.Polish company Niko model offers a number of kits of Brooklyn class cruisers, representing the evolution of this class at different stages of World War II. The subject of my build is USS Philadelphia, represented in her late war (1945) configuration. The kit included resin parts, two photoetch frets, and metal masts. The only things I needed to add were the rigging, done with Uschi 0.03 mm elastic thread, and generic decals for the hull numbers and aircraft markings (the kit includes 2 Vought OS2U Kingfishers).
