1/700 IJN Yubari (Tamiya)
This is my first build after a "rest" of about 6 or 7 years, and is a kit I just happened to have left from that time, but once I started to do some research for the build, I discovered what a facinating and inivative ship she was. The kit looks innitially quite good but as the build progressed and more information was uncovered there were many areas of inaccuracy that came to light. Some of these I corrected but others, especially the bridge structure I decided to leave for this project as I intend to build a second kit of her as launched in 1923 which will entail a major rework and much scratchbuilding.
The main areas of rework on this model are the midships AA platform (scratchbuilt) and the masts built from brass rod. Detailing was done using GMM railings, WEM Light AA weapons and Skywave accessories. Painting was done with Humbrol enamels, weathered with watercolour washes and pastel chalks.
The last image is a stereo anaglyph, so anyone with a pair of red/cyan stereo glasses (the cheap card ones are perfect) can see the ship in full 3D!
