1/1200 USS Midway CV-41 (Mountford)
Up for your viewing pleasure is my version of the USS Midway circa 1965 during her Vietnam War cruise. On deck is CVW-2.The carrier is from Mountford, which is based in the UK. In a word, the kit is awesome. There were only a few bubbles in the resin around the waterline. The island and guns are metal and there is a small brass detail sheet that has some support structures. Out of the box this kit is modeled after the Midway's final refit in the 70's. After much deliberation, I decided to have a go at retro-fitting the carrier, I couldn't stop my OCD. I found plans and scaled them down and drew cut lines on the deck. The conversion went much better than I planned. A razor saw went thought it like butter. I added railings and radars from other brass sets, just a bit of icing on the cake. After a bit of clean up I hand painted the ship - too small to drag out the airbrush. Decaling was quite simple, just 5....
The airwing was 3D printed from Shapeways. They have multiple options for airwings, covering most time frames (60's up). My box came with A-6's and Sh-3's but those are outside my time frame. They are all hand painted and the tail markings were applied with a 100/0 brush. I did take a bit of artistic license, VF-111 didn't have the sunburst yet, but its too cool to leave off. Ive got at least one plane from each squadron on deck. I tried my best to match colors to squadrons, but there are a couple in question.
That's about it, Pretty simple model, but packed with detail.
Thanks for looking and don't throw rotten tomatoes.
