1/700 HMS Eagle R05 (Fujimi)
:This is a stylised model of HMS Eagle during NATO Cold War Exercise Strikeback in September 1957, in memory of my late father, Allen, who was on board at the time (see excerpt from Navy News). The kit was difficult to source as they are quite old now.
To keep the cost down I used two sets of Revell acrylic paint (Military Ships Set and Civilian Aircraft Set) - which gave me a good range of greys and all the colours I needed for the aircraft and other details. I indulged in some Ark Royal decals from Starling Models which I cannibalised to make the ‘E’, ‘R05’ etc. I also placed on a board from Coastal Kits. My first model, not yet at the skill level for etchings, but I hope to make another submission.Fun fact:The Fujimi box picture seems to be based on the Imperial War Museum photo of HMS Eagle on that operation.
