IJN Soryu

SORYU-01

1/700 IJN Soryu (Aoshima)

I modeled the IJN Soryu as depicted in The Battle of Midway, June 4-6,1942.  The Soryu was the senior ship of Carrier Division 2, along with the junior ship Hiryu.  She was captained by Yanagimoto Ryusaku under the commander of the First Mobile Striking Force (*Kido Butai), *VADM Chuichi Nagumo.

On June 4th, the Soryu was struck by three 1,000-pound bombs from Bombing 3 (VB-3) of the carrier Yorktown.  She was scuttled later that day by three torpedoes from the destroyer Isokaze.

I used the following materials in my build::

Photo Etch Upgrade from Shipyard Works
>From Lion Roar:
   Flight Deck
   Outboard Circuit
   Flight Deck Netting
Decals:
   Hobby Elements
   Peddinghaus
   Micro Scale
Mast, Antennae photo etch from Five Star and Flyhawk
Planes from Seaway Models
Various AA guns from Fine Molds and Bunker Studios
