USS Warrington

1/350 USS Warrington DD-383 (Yankee Modelworks)

This is another Somers class kit by YMW, it is a slightly modified Sampson kit. It is built as the USS Warrington in 1943 operating out of the Panama Canal Zone wearing MS-16 camouflage. The measure calls for a pattern of white and Thayer blue with 20B decks. Working from photos I determined only the midship twin 40mm tub had the inside of the splinter shield painted in a camouflage color, all other tubs were 20B on the inside faces, this is not uncommon. All paints are acrylic except the dark rigging which used MM metalizer titanium. I added antenna trunks behind the bridge, a feature most kits lack. The mast and funnel stays are stainless steel music wire with all other rigging and antennas being silk suture. I used painted cigarette rolling paper sliced into to strips for the anti-sway straps on the boat. There is also a whistle pull rigged. Antenna insulators are made from Kynar wirewrap wire insulation stripped off and cut into small lengths, just glue one end of the line in place, slip two insulators on and glue the other end of the line in place, then slide the insulators where you want them and tack in place with CA, paint a dark brown. 5”-38 barrels and 20mm's are from L'Arsenal.
