1/125 Fletcher Class Destroyer (Lindberg)

I purchased this Lindberg “Blue Devil” Destroyer on a whim at a local hobby shop and intended to build it straight out of the box and use it to test my ability to build a sea diorama. The inspiration for the diorama's a series of color photos of the USS Cotton DD-669 that is on the Navsource Website. I liked it because it appears to be in a transition from a Measure 22 scheme to who knows what. There are numerous deck hardware components that are painted Zinc Chromate. However the freshly painted surfaces appear to be a much darker gray than the standard Measure 22 scheme.

As I started the model, which I have built several times in the past for people that wanted a simple RC ship. I could not help starting to correct and add finer detail. However I am less than satisfied with the  results of this model build. The seascape came out good but this was supposed to be my first attempt and it ended up being number three by the time I got around to doing the base.

I used most of the Tom’s model works PE set, my first time using PE. There are some figures from another 1/125 scale Lindberg kit scattered around the ship. I scratch built most of the mast components, added the second anchor and anchor handling gear, reworked the amidships areas to more closely match the lines of the real destroyer and added small details here and there.

You will notice there is no visible hull number or name. I felt that this is a representation of a Fletcher Class and rather than pin a specific hull it will always be nameless.
