USS Buchanan
by Motoyuki Iwashige

1/350 USS Buchanan DD-484 1942 (DML)

This model was built for the introduction of this new kit in the magazine HOBBY JAPAN vol.472. Due to time restrictions and the nature of such a report, building was as simple as possible and additional details were minimal. Fortunately I was greatly helped by my friend Mr. Dan Kaplan for forwarding my questions to Mr. Timothy Dike himself, the designer of this kit. These images are provided to the gallery in response to Timothy’s kind invitation, with permission from the Hobby Japan editor. I express great gratitude to them all.

As mentioned above this model retains much of original appearance of the kit. I made few alterations;

  1. All hull scuttles are filled.
  2. Plates on the bow and under bell-mouth were added.
  3. Bridge peak, bow cut-up, shaft bracket and hull shape around rudder was modified in shape.
  4. Additionally I used RLM76 instead of haze grey to show camouflage pattern clearly.
