1/700 USS Benfold DDG-65 (REVELL Germany)

This is the 1:700 kit of the Arleigh Burke class destroyer by REVELL Germany/PITROAD/SKYWAVE. According to several photos it was built straight oob and represents the USS Benfold DDG-65, another unit of my carrier strike group of the USS Nimitz in 1998. In addition  the FLAGSHIP MODELS  PE set was used, some of the EDUARD sailors too. The REVELL kit shows the ship with a complete hull, so a little “conversion” was needed to bring it into waterline position. I glued a piece of styrene, 1,5 mm thick, onto the hull and sand it. Coloring was done with REVELL 378 for the decks and 374 for the rest, applied with an airbrush. A few sections got some VALLEJO pigments for a little used tone. The rigging is made of a women’s panty hose fiber. The sea is sculpted with acrylic gel and a foam roller on a painted plywood panel, 60 x 30 cm. The whole diorama will show the USS Nimitz deployment during the operation Southern Watch, from 09-01-1997 to 03-02-1998. The other units were already shown here.

Just for an example how I work I show the building of the USS Benfold in step-by-step pictures.
