1/700 IJN Yunagi at Savo (Pit-Road)
Yunagi was the smallest ship and the only destroyer in the Japanese assault force that attacked the screen of the Allied landing fleet at Guadalcanal just after midnight on August 9, 1942. The 17-years old Kamikaze-class ship was capable of making 37 knots and armed with six 533mm torpedo tubes (with 4 extra torpedoes for reload) and four 120mm guns. Upon Mikawa´s dash into the Savo sound Yunagi separated from the cruisers, exchanged fire with the damaged destroyer USS Jarvis for 5 minutes and lauched torpedoes on her without any conclusive results. Yunagi then continued north-west where she briefly illuminated the picket destroyer USS Ralph Talbot and was sighted by USS Blue, but Blue did not fire on her for not being certain whether she was friend or foe. After re-joining the cruiser force Yunagi returned to Rabaul. My Yunagi is shown about to open fire at the limping USS Jarvis.
