IJN Asagumo

1/700 IJN Asagumo (PitRoad)

Pictured is the Japanese Asashio class destroyer Asagumo, in her early 1943 fit. She was among the most active and successful of her class, most notably participating in the Battle of the Java Sea, the entire Guadalcanal campaign including the actions of November 12-15, the Battle of the Bismarck Sea, & Leyte Gulf.

This is the PitRoad tooling which is, along with their Hatsuharu class, probably the best of the IJN first class DD offerings in their product line. She is on the left in the first photo with sister Asashio (1942) on the right. Asashio is pictured in the second photo (it seemed too good a photo to ignore), and the remaining photos are all of Asagumo.

Portholes were drilled out , degaussing cable added, masts and funnel grills are scratch built from brass, bridge windows and much detail has been added, including reworking the torpedo reload bays and main mounts with brass rod barrels and stiffeners. Photoetch includes GMM railings, and FineMold fittings and 25mm AA mounts. As always, special care was taken to get the rigging as accurate as possible. Rigged with Dai Riki 9X .002”.

Asagumo is painted in a mix of Tamiya paints for Kure Grey, hull red & IJN linoleum.
