1/350 Admiral Pateleyev (Trumpeter)
This model depicts one of the Russian Udaloy class of DDGdesign (the kit was released in 2006). Russia’s answer to our Burke classDDG design. In battle I would stand byour Burke class to come out on top, but I still wouldn’t count out theUdaloy class as a deadbeat. One must never underestimate their opponents’capabilities.I choose build this kit due to its looks alone. To methey are sleek and menacing looking ships. Loaded with weapons, all unlike inappearance of the USN. This gives the builder/collector a variety in ships vsjust building USN, or whoevers navy it is you choose to build.
I found the kit very easy and straight forward with nohidden issues to overcome. With only 398 parts, and I assume these arejust the plastic ones, it goes together well. No fit issues at all. Asall models you will have seams to fill but that’s on big deal here. I chose tobuild mine as she was in the Baltic Fleet, which prompted me to use thosecolors vs the Northern Fleet Gray. I used Colourcoats Baltic Fleet Gray andRussian Deck Red. I prefer the Baltic colors over the Northern Fleet, mainlydue to the white pinstripe over black boot top. Northern Fleet only hasthe white stripe over hull red. The other colors are from Testors Model Masterline and some old Floquil.
I used the Gold Medal Models PE set. I still find thatGMM is very user friendly after all these years and with all the new PE makersout there I still go back to GMM when it applies to my subject. Thanks toLoren Perry for his work. I did have to re-pitch the propellers to myliking. I found the blades were bit shallow in pitch. These are offixed pitch type and not CPP. In all I have to say this wasa fun kit to build. I’d like to thank Martin Quinn for his photographyand work on this subject.
