1/2400 Pearl Harbor, May 1940 (GHQ)
This is the third in a series of Pearl Harbor photos this was based on a photo taken by a PBY crewman at about 5000 feet right after the end of Fleet Problem XXI. With the exception of the Colorado all of the Battlefleet is present as well as the Sara, Lex, Enterprise and Yorktown. Most of the ships in the harbor thought this was just going to be a pleasant interlude before returning to the West Coast. Within days the orders would come creating the Pacific Fleet based in Pearl Harbor. Within a month events would see the three New Mexico class BB's and the Carrier Yorktown depart for the new Atlantic Fleet to add their strength to the Battleships Arkansas, Texas and New York and the Carrier Ranger. The diorama at 1/2400 scale is 4'x 4' and when not used in lectures is the coffee table in my study.
