1/2400 Royal Netherlands Navy Somali humanitarian relief mission (3d print)
The Royal Netherlands Navy is a very cool institution. It is one of the oldest navies in the world and used to be the second most powerful after the RN. Today it’s still going strong. I decided to make a diorama of what a relatively small squadron of ships would look like if they were sent to help out people in Somalia. They have already sent their submarines to the Horn of Africa at request on UN missions to take care of pirates and the HNLMS Holland class patrol ships were designed to fight smugglers and pirates and not for major fleet actions. De Zeven Provinclen, HNLMS Karel Doorman and HNLMS Van Speijk are also multi-role ships.I have plans to do a major Dutch Navy Fleet diorama showing a hypothetical Operation Corporate (Falklands War RN task group) style mission to liberate the Netherlands Antilles if they were annexed by Venezuela. It would have 34 ships (Military and civilian ships taken up from trade.) and be in 1/3000th scale. It will be the largest (by number of ships) I have ever built. I would call it ‘Koninklijke Marine - Operatie Bedrijfsmatig.’ Almost all modern Dutch Navy ships on Shapeways are made by ‘Dutch Fleet Naval Miniatures’. However, they do make a huge noumber of miniatures from many navies right now (385 total).
