1/700 MSC TAK-R USNS Mercury (scratch-build)
A Civil War general once said, "who gets there firstest with the mostest wins." The huge roll-on, roll-off Military Sea-lift Command ships, like USNS Mercury, did just that for the U.S. in the first Desert Storm, 1991. Mercury made its trips to Kuwait loaded with Humvees, trucks and armored personnel carriers among other items. These first 1980's vintage 'ro-ros' have been superceeded by the Bob Hope class, all commanded by naval officers and crewed by Merchant Marine sailors.
