1/700 USS Quail AM-15 (Corsair Armada)

I had the opportunity to hear a presentation by USCG Commander (ret) Tim Deal about the crew of the USS Quail and their escape from Corregidor.   Tim and his brother Mike discovered the original book written by Lt. Commander (ret) John Morrill, the Captain of the USS Quail and obtained permission to republish it.  I highly recommend this book.  To thank Tim for keep this story alive I built this replica depicting the scene of the crew scuttling the Quail  so that Japanese forces could not take her.  The Quail was a Lapwing class mine sweeper commissioned April 29, 1919.  The kit used was the Corsair Armada 1/700 USS Vireo (AM-52).  This is a wonderful little kit that took little modification.  I added 3” guns from Niko models.  Masts were scratch built and soldered from brass rod.  Rigging was accomplished with Uni-Caenis black and white line.  She was mounted to a foam base using a method similar to that of Frank Spahr.  The base was fitted into a Tamiya dome case and presented to Tim at our local Rob Wolf IPMS chapter meeting.
