1/400 German Torpedo Boat V-106 (Mirage)
This was my first plastic ship model in about 30 years. After
visiting this site, I wanted to try building something using photoetch
parts. I liked the look of this ship and the relative simplicity of it
and ordered the dedicated PE set to go with it. I read through Mike Ashley's
"Building and Detailing Scale Model Ships" before getting started. I was
a little surprised at how small she was, but I was very pleased with the
results once I put her together. I would love to see one of these ships
in plastic in a larger scale. I cut out the closed plastic bridge windows
and used a bit of screen to simulate the frames. I lost the forward port
torpedo tube while building it, and replaced it with a cut down 5" HVAR
rocket from a 1/72 P-47 hanging from my garage ceiling. The port screw
also disappeared sometime after she was put on display on the shelf. The
wires are 2lb-test fly fishing tippet.
