1/700 IJN Toshima (Five Star Model)

The original

In 1911, Natsushima Maru was built as an inshore minelayer. Based on the experience, the improved Sokuten Maru was built in 1913. After that the Sokuten Maru was used as a template for eleven additional auxiliary minerlayers. There was no official name for the class, but in literature it is often called Sokuten class or Toshima class. This is not to be confused with the 1938 built Sokuten class. The length of the ships was 45.7 m and the width of 7.6 m. The armament was slightly different. The Natsushima Maru and the Sokuten Maru had two 3 inch (76.2 mm) Armstrong guns. The other ships received a 76.2mm Type 41 gun. For this purpose, up to 120 mines could be transported. In addition, the ships had depth charge on board. Due to conversions during the Second World War, they were added partially two 13mm anti-aircraft guns and two double depth charge projectors.Die Toshima Maru had its launch in October 1914 in the naval dock Maizuru. The commissioning took place on March 20, 1915. In July 1920, the ship was renamed Toshima. It was sunk in Maizuru by American carrier aircraft on July 30, 1945.
