1/350 USS Freedom, LCS-1 (Trumpeter)
This is the Trumpeter kit of the USS Freedom sporting her camouflage paint job. It was a commission build, and at the request of her owner, no PE rails were added.
With the exception of waterlining the kit, it is built out of the box. All paints used were Model Master acrylics.
This really is a great little kit and was fun to build. The fit was excellent, with only one issue arising when I added the structure the 2 aft guns are installed on that required a good amount of sanding and filling. I can’t necessarily blame the kit for this issue, as I did put a LOT of pressure on the hull when I cut off the bottom half, so I could have warped it. The red warning circle decals are really great, and even have the white “danger area” wording clearly legible.
My only issue with the kit is that it has PE tie-downs for the flight deck. That just seems a little silly for my taste, and I hope it is not a new trend for flight decks. Only a few spare tie-downs are included, so be careful!
This was the first camouflage paint job I have done in about 10 years, so it was a very nice change of pace for me. Pictures showing the port side camo pattern are somewhat hard to find, but I am pretty sure I nailed it. There are a few diagrams on line that show the camo pattern, but all of the ones I found were wrong, especially on the port side colors and patterns.
