1/72 PT-109 (Revell)
A friend of mine who’s in the Navy JAG Corps asked me several years
ago if I’d build him a model of PT-109 for his desk. It was always one
of those projects that I figured I’d get around to eventually. He recently
got transfer orders and is headed out of the Midwest, so I thought I probably
should try and get something done before he left. I only had about two-week’s
notice, but I’ve built the kit a couple of times already, so I was aware
of some of the problems and shortcuts to take to get around them. I did
want to add the 37 mm gun this time as I think it gives the model some
additional interest, but otherwise tried to keep things basic. I do regret
not getting time to find and add 1/72 scale depth charges, and I probably
should have added more rigging to the 37 mm gun. Otherwise I was
happy with how it turned out. I used Testor’s Medium Green and Testor’s
British Crimson, weathered with watercolor paints, pastel chalks and a
grey artists pencil. I’ve got a display case for it and it’s all ready
for his new desk. Finally.
