The paddle steamer Ben my Chree ll 1875-1906 by Jim Baumann

The model  is scratch-built on a wood carved  hull  with styrene , brass and stainless steel super-structure.

The wood paneling is individual brass squares applied individually , cut  from ladderstock PE

4 x funnels and cowls were made of aluminum tubing that had the top edges  drilled and ground out to make near-scale thin.

The Paddle box  running legs logo and decoration  and stern scrolls and name were  drawn for me especially and printed as a decal numerous times (!)  on A4 sheet , giving lots of spares in varying sizes of 0.1mm increments larger and smaller.

The unique  ships boats were custom designed and 3 D printed by a friend in France.

Passengers and crew were 1/700 3-D printed civilians  from German  firm Modellbauray.com.
  • a full summary of  the quite involved build process can be  read here;
  • The rigging is all stretched sprue--the  step-by-step for this can be found here
  • The water is my usual water colour paper method --the step-by-step for  this can be found here

I have not been able too find another model--evena  builders model of her ;-so everything was based on the stated dimensions, as we all

 photo extrapolation  and  interpretation, measuring from scaled to 1/700 photos

In conclusion;

 I am  happy to have researched and created this model--I have not been ablle too find another model--even builders model of her which would have been  rather too easy!
