1/600 SS Oceanic 1963 (Scratchbuilt)
This is my latest scratch-built ship to 1:600. It is the SS Oceanic which was built in 1965.She is shown here in her Premier Cruises livery which she wore circa 1985 – 2000. The ship had many features that were ahead of her time - the principal one being the “magrodome.” This was a sliding glass roof over the pool area.
In May 2010 the ship came under attack by pirates off the coast of Yemen. She escaped by zig-zagging and using high pressure hoses against the pirates.
She was scrapped in mid-2012.
The model was built out of various thicknesses of plastic card and of Evergreen rod. Decals, all 400 of them), were home-made and printed on waterslide decal paper on my ink-jet. Etched brass by Tom’s Modelworks.Because of the various sloping surfaces I found it to be somewhat more demanding than some of my earlier scratchbuilds!
