1/600 P&O liner SS Canberra (Airfix)
This ship is not technically a warship, but I hope she qualifies as one due to her splendid service in Operation Corporate. She was survived undamaged.
The model was built as per the kit instructions, with the exception of the mast structure. While my model was on display, the original mast came up missing. Further investigation proved that the mast in the kit was a bit small, and not a good representation of the prototype, so I scratchbuilt a better one.
Another departure from the kit was the addition of funnel extensions. These were added to the actual ship not long after it went into service, to aid in lifting the smoke.
Water in the many pools was simulated by painting the pool floor and walls, then filling the pools with acrylic varnish.
The model is finished in acrylic paint.
