RMS Majestic

1/446 RMS Majestic (Airfix/Revell Kitbash)

The White Star Liner RMS Majestic was built in 1890. She briefly took the westbound Atlantic speed record in 1891. She also served as a troop ship during the Boer War. In 1902 Majestic underwent a refit, and her three masts were reduced to two. In November 1911 she was mothballed, but resumed service to replace the ill fated Titanic. She was scrapped in 1914.

I have modeled Majestic as she was in 1906, when my great-grandmother, and grandmother, aged 6 months, emigrated to New York aboard her.

The hull is much modified from an Airfix 1/600 Mauretania kit. The scale works out to be about 1/446. Some parts, such as the funnels, are from the Revell 1/570 Titanic kit. The masts, rigging and lifeboat davits are brass wire and tubing. PE is from Gold Medal Model’s 1/450 Merchant set.
