RMS Titanic

1/350 RMS Titanic (Gunze Sangyo)

This model was purchased in early 1998 during a holiday in Hong Kong and was made at that time during the Titanic 'season' which was shortly after the movie by James Cameron 'Titanic' was released into cinemas. It took me a total of 8 weeks to complete this ship and this has been my masterpiece for a few years until I completed the USS Enterprise and Yamato over the last few months. Prior to that, I felt that this ship has been standing gracefully alongside the Bismarck in my personal cabinet due to its larger size and taller riggings. I also modified the display stand back in 1998 to include pictures from the movie Titanic which you can see here in the picture gallery. The kit itself was not that difficult to build as there were detailed instructions by Gunze Sangyo on how the rigging should be done. Nevertheless, there were some difficult moments which required bending of plastic parts to form pipes and if not dealt with carefully can lead to breakage. It is good to know that despite the challenges, I managed to complete this kit in a within 8 weeks as I was doing my National Service then and could thus find time to intensively work on this. It is indeed sad to hear that such a beautiful liner like this would sink on its maiden voyage in 1912. Hope you have enjoyed viewing the pictures of this ocean liner which was the dawn of our modern world.
