1/8 Submarine of Leonardo da Vinci (Elenco)
This mechanical submarine is connected by cords to a normal ship, not a war ship, only 4 meters long, which can shiftily approach the enemy undisturbed. Propulsion is generated by two mechanical fins. Alternated motion is transmitted by a gear which receives the thrust from the diver’s legs. The diver seats himself up in the submarine without being seen and then disengages himself in order to reach the enemy ship under water and sink it with cunning sabotage devices. An “open” structure solves any problems with waterproofing and allows the diver freedom of movement and a 360° under water vision. The two buoys serve as deep-sea stabilizers as well as providing air. The sabotage devices are located in the binnacle, which is 4 meters long.
The first worldwide presentation of this model was exhibited in February 2013 in Milan at the Leonardo exhibition in the prestigious King’s Rooms in the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery, adjacent to the Piazza della Scala.
