1/700 Project 665 Missile Submarine S-164 (Takara)
The model began its life as a pre-built kit from Takara Model World. They make pretty good pre-built models, but of course they are not good enough to stand up to scrutiny of real modelers. Since I wanted to build a model of this interesting sub and nobody makes them as a model kit, I took the Takara model, took it apart, waterlined it and rebuilt it. To make it more interesting I decided to open up the missile tubes and hence scratchbuilt the missile tubes, the missiles and the missile covers for them. After that I reattached the superstructure and scratchbuilt all of the small details. The model was painted using Model Master Paints and weathered with pastels
