1/72 USS Scamp SSN-588 (Mobius)
I purchased this model because I served on it in the 1980s. I modified
the model with open hatches and doors, added the towed array sonar and
other sonar systems which were installed on it during this period. The
ship also had a seven blade screw at this time so I scratch built one for
it. I have pictures of it in dry dock so I built a display as if it was
sitting on the blocks in the dock. All the pieces and bits that were added
for this are scratch built or bashed from model railroad parts since they
could be modified as good stand in’s for the gangways. The dry dock was
more intensive and took much more time to create and finish than the model
itself!
