The HMS Repulse 1/350 Trumpeter model kit comes as she was when sunk on 10th December 1941, with a few little changes, I have been able backdate her to 1937.
The model took 3 months to build.
First the Walrus had to go, replaced with a Swordfish aircraft, sadly no one produces one with floats, lucky there are many other model float aircraft I could rob from on the market.
After a couple of tries and matching up with pictures and plans, two were made, one with folded wings. There were quite a few 20mm pods not to fit and the aft poms poms,
had to put the triple 4in gun back, I had acquired a spare plus she had the 4.5in turrets on trail at that time which a stole from another model.
The Y turret from Micro Master comes as 1941 with pods on the roof, quick email to Simon and he was able to remove these, save me cutting then off.
The detail on these turrets have to be seen. I used also Black Cat Models and M.M. for ships boats, crew and armament. The photo etching used White Ensign models.
The wooden deck I used Artwork, I had bought the Hunter one, but it didn't properly around the aft superstructure and added rigging.
All my models have to have display cases for travelling to model shows and projection from dust and the family. It comes from Boxxco made to measure for only £47 including P&P in U.K.
They come flat packed and all covered, just screw it together, even get a small screw driver.
The stripes on "B" turret was to identify neutral warships around the civil war going on in Spain in 1937.Took some checking which way to go round, red first or blue,
then I noticed all British aircraft the colours on the tail of aircraft is always red first. I Hope I'm right.
I hear that Trumpeter are bringing out her sister ship HMS Renown in 1/350, first 1942 and then 1945 version, we'll have to wait and see!
