My name is: Jan Varga
so building it straight out of the box leaves a very mixed impression. Essentially, it made sense to tackle it only when 3D printed accessories became available,
which allowed for corrections. I used a set from FiveStar Models that corresponded to the version from 1939.
- Here’s a list of the basic modifications made to the kit:
- Raised the bow by about 3mm - a typical feature of Tribal-class destroyers.
- Indicated hull plating by scribing.
- Replaced the gun turrets with 3D prints from the FiveStar set.
- Used turned masts from the FiveStar set.
- The ship's three-blade propellers are scratch-built and may not be perfectly executed. The ones in the kit are unusable, and there were no replacements in the accessory set.
- The boats are 3D printed from Black Cat Models. The kit included boats, but they weren't the ones used by the Royal Navy.
Considering how small it is, the construction was quite challenging and costly, but in the end, I am quite satisfied with the result.
HMS Eskimo was a Tribal-class destroyer, Eskimo served throughout the Second World War, seeing action in Norway, the Mediterranean,
the English Channel and in Burma. After the war Eskimo was used as an accommodation and headquarters ship, finally being used as a practice target before being scrapped in 1949.
